Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” is sharing some exciting updates on his Instagram account as well as a throwback video that is as humorous as it is inspirational. Dwayne announced that he will receive the MTV Icon Generation Award. The ceremony will air on Monday, June 17, 2019, during the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
In honor of the event, Dwayne took a look back at a 2001 MTV interview where he discussed what he hoped to achieve throughout his Hollywood career.
Excited about the upcoming award, Dwayne expressed why this honor meant so much to him.
Sharing the announcement from The Hollywood Reporter, Dwayne Johnson stated the following.
“This one means a lot. Box office revenues are cool, but the thing that really matters is the blessing to positively influence and impact generations along the way. We’re gonna rock the house and the mana (and tequila;) will flow this Saturday night… #generationaward #mtv #tequilatime 🍿🥃.”

Though Dwayne took a comedic approach to his 2001 interview (he used the hashtag #NotEyebrows), the words and message were deep. The Rock explained that when he embarked upon his career in Hollywood, there wasn’t a place for him.
He was mixed race (black and Samoan) and didn’t fit the Hollywood stereotypical mold. Dwayne pointed out that he decided not to try and be something he wasn’t in order to make it in the industry, but instead decided to be himself.
In the interview, Dwayne was 29-years-old and he spoke about being a goal oriented man. He said those who know him well, know he is always making goals. Some he hits, and some he misses, but that wasn’t his point. Dwayne explained he didn’t mind making mistakes as long as he learned from his experience and continued moving forward.
There was no question that the Rock set very high goals for himself and achieved them.
He said when it came to the WWF, his goal was to become the industry’s best.
His views on acting were that he was in it for a long-term career, which he has also successfully achieved.
