You know, the industry is a cut throat world. If you want to survive and thrive, you need to know a few things. One, don’t trust anyone. Seems Jay Leno knows this will, as he has admitted to doing some detective style eaves dropping with NBC to save his job. Yup. That’s right. Jay Leno admits he would hide in the closet during meetings about him and listen in to what all the executives had to say. That is equal parts shady and brilliant.
I guess now that he is retiring, he has no problem coming out and admitting some of his tactics for staying on top for so long. He has said if he didn’t eaves drop on two specific conversations, his job would not have lasted as long as it did. The few times he found out the show may be in trouble, he just kicked it into high gear. Basically, can you imagine what it would be like to hide in your bosses closet and listen to the plans they had for you? It may be shady, but if it kept him on the air as long as he did, it worked. Sometimes you gotta out-shade the shady folks out there to survive.
Jay Leno admits that is just what he did.
