Nabil Maghnie: Melbourne crime figure shot dead in Epping

The 25-year-old son of Melbourne underworld figure Nabil Maghnie has left hospital, still with a bleeding gunshot wound, to mourn where his father was shot to death with his family.

Police are hunting for a gunman after he allegedly killed 44-year-old Maghnie and shot two other men, including one of Maghnie’s sons, before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Childs Road and Dalton Road in the Melbourne suburb of Epping about 8.30pm but Maghnie was unable to be saved.

Maghnie’s son, who was shot himself, was photographed at the scene last night with dozens of other mourners.

The 25-year-old was still wearing a white hospital gown with blood from a gunshot wound seeping onto his light-coloured pants. His left arm also appeared to still be bandaged, possibly from an IV. `

Witnesses reported Magnie ran more than 200m after he was shot in the Taco Bill carpark, but he later died on the road.

Maghnie, considered one of the most dangerous figures in Melbourne’s underworld and a Comancheros associate, was in the restaurant carpark in the city’s north when the three men were set upon.

Victoria Police said a 44-year-old Bundoora man, later confirmed as Maghnie, died at the scene.

Two other men who were shot, including one of Maghnie’s sons, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still to be determined but investigators believe the parties involved were known to each other.

Maghnie’s enemies included Mongols Motorcycle Club members and a northern suburbs crime family.

The feared Comanchero associate was under investigation for the double fatal shooting at the Love Machine nightclub last year.

His son, Jacob Elliott, has been charged with murder over those shootings.

Maghnie was also arrested in November last year over the killing of drug trafficker Mitat Rasimi but was released without charge.

Maghnie had been shot twice in the past, including in 2016 when he drove himself to hospital after being shot in the head.

Maghnie was on bail after being charged with driving while on drugs after crashing a car into a roundabout at 209 km/h at Woodstock in May.

After the crash, he went to hospital where cocaine and other drugs were found in his system.
